Crop and animal production is the main resource in agriculture, and horticultural crops, which are included in plant production, have an important share in terms of both production and the country's economy. Turkey is among the countries with high horticultural production potential in the world and ranks in the top three in the production of many products. When it comes to horticultural crops, it should come to mind not only as production, but also as a sector that creates the livelihood of millions of people in the consumption chain, together with the stages such as storage, processing and marketing of the products.
Increasing the production alone is not enough; obtaining new products with high added value from the products and being sensitive to human nutrition and health are among the important targets. In recent years, in parallel with social awareness, the concepts of healthy nutrition and healthy food have come to the fore. For this reason, besides the productivity of the products grown, it is also important that they are of good quality, comply with standards and are healthy. In order to reach these quality standards, it is undoubtedly the basic condition to have Agricultural Engineers who are well-equipped, competent and comprehend the subtleties of their profession.
Our department, with its academic staff, carries out scientific research and projects on the one hand, and on the other hand brings competent Agricultural Engineers to the related sectors with its undergraduate education. Agricultural Engineers, whom we graduate with an increasing practice and laboratory-based education and training approach in our department, can find the opportunity to work in various public/private institutions and organizations of our country. Our department also offers graduate and doctorate education to both our graduates and undergraduates in horticulture from our country and different countries of the world, in the Department of Horticulture, which is within the body of the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences.
In Eskişehir, which stands out as an education and culture city in Turkey, we invite people who want to receive undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education in the field of horticultural, with its competent and equipped staff, and welcome young people who will devote themselves to Agricultural Engineering, the profession of the future.
